Honningsvag is the last village before Norway's mysterious North Cape, beyond which lies only icy water before one reaches the North Pole. This expanse of wilderness is marred by nothing save an occasional herd of reindeer and the Midnight Sun shines here from mid-May to the end of July. Honningsvag is your gateway to this splendor.
MORNING MIST AND MIDNIGHT SUN
In the arctic sky, the Midnight Sun creates round-the-clock daylight from May to the end of July. With 200 days of snow or frost, the Gulf Stream usually provides enough warm currents to prevent a hard freeze. The North Cape experiences dramatic weather elements such as lingering fog and rain clouds but vast forests and breathtaking views are also part of the allure of the North Cape.
NORDKAPP
North Cape Rock, over 1,000 feet above the sea, marks the northernmost corner of Europe. Nobody lives permanently at North Cape itself. The majestic cliff formation representing the final frontier to the Arctic Ocean has long been a destination for both adventurers and royalty.
NORTH CAPE HALL
In 1988, the Royal North Cape Hall was opened within the cliff at North Cape. It hosts restaurants, a post office and souvenir shop, all situated four floors below ground. You can stroll outside to the top of the cliff and enjoy the panorama -- the North Cape is one of the most breathtaking sights any world traveler will ever see.
