Disney Extends Cruise Deal with Port Canaveral
By Johanna Jainchill
Disney Cruise Line finalized an agreement to extend its contract with Port Canaveral through 2023, and to homeport two new ships there.
Under the 15-year agreement, the Canaveral Port Authority will extend the dock and enlarge and enhance Disney's terminal building to allow for additional luggage and passenger capacity. Also, the authority will build a multi-level parking structure by 2011.
The terminal and dock enlargements are required to accommodate the new and larger Disney ships, scheduled to launch in 2011 and 2012. Disney said the facility will have several "Disney touches" for children.
More than 3.5 million passengers have sailed from Port Canaveral on a Disney cruise since the line's launch in 1998, said Disney.
